are you a kindergartener?

"...grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen." 2 Peter 3:18
When passing the newest and youngest crew of our school, one of them asked me a question i had never heard, "Are you a kindergartener?"  I stopped waiting for the rest of his question... like, kindergartener teacher, kindergartener parent, kindergartener helper.  But no, that was his complete question. I couldn't help but laugh out loud.  Although my outfit might have passed for a child's, my height, rough skin and hair color surely screamed a different story.  But for a moment, it produced a spring in my step and put a big smile on my face.

While i don't physically look like a kindergartener, there is one way i hope to always resemble them... in their eagerness and desire to search for truth and knowledge.  

Father, no matter my age, i want to always thirst to know You and Your Truths better. May fear nor pride never stop me in approaching You with my inadequacies, needs or questions. As i grow in the knowledge and grace of You, not only will my life be filled with more peace but i trust it will overflow to the ones around me too.

comfort, please

These days we are constantly conscious of the need for comfort in our world.  In the blink of an eye life can take dramatic turns.  The realization that so much in our life is also out of our control can be crippling.  It is then we lean heavily on the One who IS in control and can provide the comfort, peace, guidance and strength needed.  If you are hurting today, i pray His Truths and love cover and comfort you. 

My Dearest Child,
Breathe, and let me remind you of some of My many promises and Truths to you along with My everlasting love…

At the time it happens, I am there. (Isaiah 48:16)
Remain calm; I will fight for you. (Exodus 14:14)
When you pass through the waters, I am with you. (Isaiah 46:4)
I will not leave you or forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)
I gather you and your loved ones like lambs in My arms and carry you close to my heart, and gently lead the mothers of the lambs.
(Isaiah 40:11)
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:10, 13)
I am your refuge and strength an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)
I have captured every tear from your eye. Not a single sorrow in your heart has escaped Me. (Psalm 56:8)
My Presence will go with you wherever you go, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:14)
I give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. (Isaiah 40:29)
I am your hiding place, and I will protect you and surround you with songs of deliverance. (Psalm 32:7)
I heal the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds... I am mighty in power; My understanding has no limit." (Psalm 147:3,5)
And remember, My Son, Jesus, told you, "... but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)

shake it off

 …”’Son of David, have mercy on me!’

Jesus stopped and said, ‘call him.’
So they called to the blind man, ‘Cheer up! On your feet!’ He’s calling YOU.’ Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.” Mark10:48-49

As surely as Jesus stopped in response to the blind man’s plea to Him, He will stop in response to us.

What is hindering you in calling and reaching out to Him-- and then, responding to His call? What do you need to throw off to come to Him?

Old habits
Worry
Fear
Feelings of defeat
Worldliness
Doubts
Anger
Feelings of worthlessness
Pride
Harmful relationships
Addictions

May we follow the blind man’s example at all times and especially when in need. Let’s call out to Him and respond to His calling to us with quickness and obedience and belief, Because He CARES ABOUT YOU.

W.W.J.D.?

"Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children." Ephesians 5:1

While growing up over 30 years ago, W.W.J.D. bracelets spread across our land in schools, churches and homes.  The phrase, "What Would Jesus Do" became a common response to troubling questions for teenagers, as well as, adults.


In light of recent difficulties, it seems a WWJD mindset might assist in calming the raging waters of disagreement, discourse and turmoil.  While i don't know the answers to current problems and issues, i do believe if we dealt with situations and each other as Jesus would we'd experience greater comfort, healing and peace.

Father, help us to face our issues at hand by answering questions with What Would Jesus Do.

How might that change our action, attitude, or heart?
Would our answer then be based on our individual need/desire or more on the need of others?
Would we strive to be politically correct or right in Your eyes?
Would our personal agenda be met or erased?
Am i willing to sacrifice self-interests for the sake of another?
Where do personal rights rank with me? ...with Jesus?
Am i willing to suffer for the good of others?
What would Jesus do if faced with the same issue?

One fact for sure, we are a hurting land in need of healing.  It is my prayer to not put salt in our wounded heart, but the healing salve of God... and that is only possible when there is less of me and more of God in my heart.

Less of me, and more of Thee...
that's what it's got to be.
May His peace be yours.

classroom rules

 "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you." Psalm 32:8
As a teacher, what do you expect from your class?

1.  Pay attention; listen when the teacher is talking.
2.  Be prepared; read your lessons and do your homework daily.
3.  Apply what you learn to your work.
4.  Follow the teacher's directions.
5.  And, if you need help, ask the teacher.

Would you agree that those expectations are building blocks for the success of the student? To help them get the most out of their studies? And, to reap benefits now and in the future?

We, also, are students and are under the watchful, loving eyes of the greatest Teacher of all... our Father.  Since we are in the classroom-of-life for Christ, may we follow the same guidelines.  He has the desire and ability to equip us with wisdom, discernment and power.  Let us listen to Him, read His Word, do as He instructs, and pray... in times of need and praise.

what will you BE?

Back in school for just a week and i am already dragging.   A dose of B-12 would certainly provide a needed boost of energy, enabling me to serve others better.  But i BElieve the Be-9s below would reap even richer results and long-term benefits.


Through all the chaos, crazies and changes of the first week, we have made it! And i am grateful to have completed it with the support of you. May your weekend BE filled with rest, refreshment and thankful reflections.

When we lead by example and with a servant's heart, the flock is properly led, empowered and prepared.  Remember the dreams that ignited your fire to teach so you may inspire others to discover their dreams.

you teach?

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach..." Romans 12:6-7

What you do is God's gift to you.  What you do with that gift is your gift to God.

Teaching.. it's a gift from God. And the best gift you can give back to God is not a  pretty Pinterest-perfect room, but a tender, in-touch-with heart allowing Him to branch out through you in love and goodness, touching all students in your path. 

Gifts from God are the best, and you are the best teacher for your class.  Accept His gift with joy, believe Him and let Him shine through your words and actions.  You are going to be a rich blessing to those students claiming you as theirs.

School has started...  time for a new planting and nurturing of growth.
Teachers plant and cultivate seeds of hope and knowledge; all school staff team members contribute to the growth of students by watering with love, encouragement and guidance; and God blesses our obedience to Him by developing sweet relationships with each other and Him. 

We are all a part of the Master Teacher's perfect plan. Like our students, what we don't know or can't see, we need to trust Him with it. The lessons He has in store for us might be different than the ones we're expecting, but He knows what is necessary and best.  I believe it's going to be a God-tacular year.  Do you believe it too?

'twas the night before school

 "I will give you as a light to the nations, which my salvation may reach to the end of the earth." Isaiah 49:6

‘Twas the night before school and all thru the town,
Children were filled with delight and couldn’t settle down.
Their book bags by the door were packed with care,
Knowing a new school year was almost there.

The children were giggling and tossing in bed,
While visions of super teachers danced in their heads.
Now, across the way, teachers were finally at rest,
They had busily prepared for "day one" - to their very best.

Then out came the sun, shining so bright.
The teachers feared they'd overslept the night!
With a deep breath they grabbed their glasses and peered at the clock,
Alas! there was plenty of time before the school doors were unlocked.

Arriving early for a final check of the room before the bell at a quarter to 8, 
The teachers breathed easily for their classrooms looked great.
The books and supplies were stacked neatly on shiny, clean desks,
The chairs were in perfect order… there was absolutely no mess.

Soon the bell rang, and one-by-one the children eagerly came;
What sweet music to their ears as the teacher called them by name.
Hello Ben, Hi there Emma, Louise and Jada,
Welcome to our class Anna, Tommy and MaKayla!

Come on in Craig, Rashaad and you too, Donna Sue! 
Oh, my! Look at my list, what a wonderful crew!
Now find your seats quickly, the teacher said with a grin,
And she explained classroom instructions so everyone could win.

Her knowledge was vast and she made learning a ball,  
What the teacher had to offer was her gift for all.
The children drooled over the information she shared;
Whether they learned quickly or not, they knew she truly cared.

The teacher lovingly taught all because she truly believed,
Each child deserved her best…and she wanted to meet their needs.
At the end of the day, students and teachers skipped away,
Both feeling happy and relieved it had been such a great day.

And I heard the students exclaim as they rode out of sight,
My teacher is great!! this year is going to be just right!

Yes, my friends, you teachers have the power,
To serve the Lord, our Father and Teacher, each and every hour.
So to Him give your best in all that you do,
And you will make a difference in others, perhaps for an eternity too!

Shine my sisters and brothers, light up your classroom and world!
It's the beginning of a fabulous school year!  And it all starts with wonderful you!

May we trust God to provide the strength, wisdom, courage and protection needed for each day.

are you ready?

The teacher's countdown is almost over:

Day - 5  return and enjoy co-workers :)
Day - 4  deal with problems and unexpected changes :l
Day - 3  meetings, meetings, meetings :/
Day - 2  dazed and glazed :\
Day - 1  panicky as last-minute preparations are done  :o
Day - 0  smile and greet the students :)

As the days and minutes tick by, so do the questions in my head.  Are all the lists done, have i left any children off the roll, do i have all the necessary supplies? This is the last day to prepare before the arrival of the students.  Are you ready?

Even if everything is not as you envisioned, it will be okay.  The most important item in the classroom Monday will be you.  Remember, first impressions are important and lasting.  Even if the room or paperwork is not perfectly ready, let our minds be perfectly ready to receive and welcome some of our Father's most precious jewels...  our students.  They are ready to shine for you!

Have a restful weekend.  As long as you can smile, you are ready for your students.

puttin on the shine

It almost called for sunshades...
On my first day back at school, i was immediately WOWed by the beautiful floors. While i enjoyed the summer, our custodial team buffed, polished and worked tirelessly putting our building in spit 'n shine shape.  Their effort and dedication clearly glowed.

Father, as we prepare for the students to return this week, i pray they find Your Light shining through us.  Brush off my weaknesses, erase my impatience, polish me with kindness  and let me shine with Your endless love.  It's a new year, and time to put on the shine and "Son"shades.

flip flops on hold

Where did summer go?  One blink of the eye, a couple of flips in the water and a new school season is here.  My bookbag from the end of the school never got put in the closet, and now it's time to use it.  Where do we start?

Whether a teacher, administrator, parent, grandparent, relative, friend or other supporter of education, i've got a winning solution.  Start with what is needed first and most of all... prayer.  Let's cover our schools and students in prayer starting today.  With God all things are possible.

The Answer

 “And God said, ‘I will be with you.’” Exodus 23:12

I am in agony, how can I continue?
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

When will this all end?
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

Does anyone understand my loss?
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

This pain won’t go away.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

I am so tired, i just can’t go on.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

I am surrounded by temptations, how can i avoid them?
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

I need answers to my problems, right now!
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

The anger inside of me is about to explode.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

My heart has been shredded.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

I am afraid.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

I feel so all alone.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

The journey ahead of me is long and uncertain.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

Father help me, you alone know what I am facing.
“And God said, ‘I will be with you.’”

Whatever the issue… He IS the answer.

Thank you, Father, today i choose to believe You are with me at all times... just because You said so.  Thank You, because no matter what is happening in my life, You are the One constant i need to keep going for peace.

the bucket list

"...I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:11-13

Summer is quickly slipping away, and my summer bucket list has not shrunk much.  With the days dwindling, there is no way i can complete my list.  I could fume over time wasted or unplanned interruptions or a lack of days off, but what would that accomplish?  Besides feeling defeated and down, there is another option.  I've decided to celebrate and give thanks for what i did accomplish or complete during my break.
Buckets are made to be filled and emptied.  Learning to be content with whatever the bucket does or does not hold is the true treasure in life.

"But godliness with contentment is great gain." 1 Timothy 6:6
